Head of Internal Audit
- The Executive will be accountable to the Chief Risk Officer and will be responsible and accountable for the effective management of all functions within this profile.
Tasks
- Formulate, develop and implement the Internal Audit Charter, strategic business plans, policies, operational procedures, strategies, delegation of authority, human capital and budgets in order to support business objectives.
- Directs audit staff in the planning, organising, directing and monitoring of Internal Audit operations, including assisting in hiring, training and evaluating staff; and taking corrective actions to address performance problems.
- Identify key challenges facing the business and design appropriate best practice strategies and interventions to achieve business goals.
- Investigate, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of internal control systems and contribute to their ongoing effectiveness by providing advice and support to management and the Audit Committee.
- Directs the identification and evaluation of the organisation’s risk areas and oversees the development of the annual Audit Plan.
- Directs the overall performance of audit procedures, including identifying and defining issues, developing criteria, reviewing and analysing evidence, and documenting client processes and procedures.
- Communicates the results of audit and consulting projects via written reports and oral presentations to management and the Board of Directors / Audit Committee.
- Develops and maintains productive client, staff, management, and Board relationships through individual contacts and group meetings.
- Managing people, budget and costs.
- Ensuring compliance with all national legislation and company specific policies, procedures and regulations.
- Ensure the efficient management and control of functions / resources in accordance with the stipulations of the PFMA, fraud prevention and risk management principles, corporate governance, legislation, company policies, processes, regulations, Delegation of Powers, etc.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Certification as a CIA or CPA
- Eight years of full-time experience in auditing, accounting, business analysis, or program evaluation, including four years supervisory or project management experience
- A graduate degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field or a second certification (CIA, CPA, or CISA) may substitute for one year of required experience. The combination of a graduate degree and a second certification may substitute for two years of required experience.
- Considerable knowledge of industry program policies, procedures, regulations and laws
- Considerable knowledge of the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and the Code of Ethics developed by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA)
- Knowledge of management information systems terminology, concepts and practices
- Extensive knowledge of Corporate Governance, PFMA
- Minimum of five years in senior strategic management position
- Graduate degree in business administration, public administration or a related field will be an distinct advantage
- Experience in industry auditing or accounting, and in supervising and conducting audits in Information Systems and other areas pertinent
- Proven track record in successfully running an Internal Audit entity in a banking environment
- Knowledge of the Banks Act
